Why is it that the middle of cough and cold season seems to be when children share the most? Yes, they don’t keep their germs to themselves! Chest congestion and a stuffy nose can prevent your children from getting the good night’s sleep that’s vital for their bodies to rest and rejuvenate. And when the kids don’t sleep, that means parents aren’t sleeping either!

What soothes a stuffy nose and a congested head and chest? A vapor rub!

Here's a safe, effective, easy, natural remedy to treat the toughest coughs and colds this season. And the best part… It’s homemade!

What you will need:
•    Coconut oil (1/4 cup) – reduces inflammation, has antibacterial properties
•    Eucalyptus essential oil (10-15 drops) - acts as an expectorant, good for respiratory issues, breaks up phlegm, has antimicrobial properties, and it smells great!
•    Peppermint essential oil (5-10 drops) - antibacterial and pain-relieving properties helps reduce inflammation, also has a cooling effect.
•    Lavender essential oil (10-12 drops) - lavender in the mixture can help you sleep better
•    Lemon essential oil (10-12 drops) – loaded with potent Vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant
•    Tea tree oil (2-3 drops) – has antimicrobial properties

How to make it:
In a bowl or a jar, take coconut oil and smoothen it. Add any or all of the mentioned essential oils and whip it up so that they mix up nicely. You can also use a mixer . Don’t have all the ingredients? Experiment with different combinations, like eucalyptus and peppermint for example. When nicely blended, transfer to an air-tight glass container. Store in a cool place, away from direct sunlight. This naturally prepared rub will keep for 5-6 months.

Use it anytime, the same way you would use commercial rubs. But unlike commercial rubs, your homemade rub only has natural benefits without any harmful ingredients! Your children will have peace of body while you have peace of mind, so you can all sleep well!
