Computer regulation thermography technology is available to patients seeking safe, effective and non-invasive breast cancer screening. Northport Wellness Center director, Alan Sherr, DC has teamed up with Stephen Atkins, PhD, CHHP to house at the Northport Wellness Center computer regulation thermography services. The Northport Wellness Center is one of the few facilities on Long Island that offers this advanced technology. In light of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Northport Wellness Center is offering patients 20 percent off thermography testing for appointments booked in October. Computer regulation thermography offers individuals an alternative or complimentary means to assessing breast tissue, as well as other body organs, to evaluate health and prevent major health challenges.

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, with the exception of skin cancer. The organization predicts that about 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime. In addition, the ACS predicts that about 2,350 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in men in 2015. Still, death rates from breast cancer have been declining since about 1989, which, according to the ACS, is believed to be the result of earlier detection through screening and increased awareness, as well as improved treatment.

“Prevention is so important. It is easier to stay healthy than to get healthy,” said Dr. Atkins. “You don’t really realize how important health is until you don’t have it.” Computer regulation thermography can help address symptoms and disorders before they become problematic, he explained.

Computer regulation thermography is a non-invasive screening tool that can detect organ and body disorders by picking up heat variations throughout the body with a wand-like device or probe. There is a huge difference between computer regulation thermography and standard breast thermography, stated Dr. Atkins.

With breast thermography, a sensitive camera is used to pick up heat when directed at the breast (cancer cells hold onto heat); it lights up when the picture is taken. Breast thermography measures only the breast and results appear in a visual picture whereas computer regulation thermography can detect disorders or irregularities throughout the body. Results are printed immediately and offer enormous insight into a person’s health.

“It gives you a window into what potentially might happen in the future.”

Computer regulation thermography uses a very sensitive thermometer that resembles a wand, which detects heat differential on up to 114 points on the body. A patient stands in a room that has been cooled to 71 degrees. Computer regulation thermography measures the regulation before and after exposure to a cool air stress, so that all of the blood is shunted away from the outer extremities and goes to the outer core. The series of 114 points on the body are exposed to cool air stress for ten minutes and then repeated. “It does a lot more than a standard camera test,” stated Dr. Atkins. “It gives you a window into what potentially might happen in the future.”

Thirty-two of those 114 points are measured on the breast. A number of areas are measured for breast dysfunction including mastectomy inflammation, fibrocystic elements, lymphatic load, heavy metal toxicity, as well as many other critical components to assessing breast health. “If there is an elevation in any of these areas, it brings your attention to that,” explained Dr. Atkins.

For women who are intimidated by mammograms or seek additional screening, this may be an optimum choice, stated Dr. Atkins. Computer regulation thermography is completely safe and there is no radiation. Women who opt out of mammography may choose annual or bi-annual thermograms to chart their progress. “If women don’t want to expose themselves to radiation or if they don’t want to expose themselves to the trauma caused by the compressing of breast tissue, this could be the alternative they are looking for,” said Dr. Atkins. For women with cystic breasts, he added, “mammography is kind of useless because the tissue is too dense… an x-ray can’t see through it anyway.”

"It shows the regulation capacity of the body and measures the toxicity level."

Computer regulation thermography can detect abnormalities not just in the breast but also in other areas of the body. It shows the regulation capacity of the body and measures the toxicity level. Teeth in particular, can reveal significant findings. Each tooth sits on acupuncture meridian, that then reflects to specific organs and organ systems, explained Dr. Atkins. “So, if you have dysregulation within one of the meridian pathways, this machine can pick it up, which is astonishing actually,” he added.

Dr. Atkins recalled a patient who presented with congestive heart failure yet never had a heart attach. Computer regulation thermography showed the bio energetic relationship with dental and meridian pathways and in this patient’s case, test results revealed an irregularity on the particular meridian that connected the tooth to the heart. As it turned out, the patient had had oral surgery that “went bad,” recalled Dr. Atkins. “Until that dental issue was cleared up, he never would be healed of congestive heart failure,” he said. Another patient’s test results revealed gut dysbiosis overgrowth of unfriendly flora in the gastrointestinal tract. In that case, treatment protocol suggested would be to replace the unfriendly flora with friendly flora, explained Dr. Atkins. Computer regulation thermography may also reveal global immune stress, adrenal problems, food sensitivities and so much more. “So why wouldn’t you want to get a test that looks at the whole body?” Dr. Atkins posed.

“We can finally see what the body is doing before it becomes dysfunctional enough to create a potentially seriously problem,”

Unlike many other medical testing, results for computer regulation thermography are immediate. Results are displayed in the form of graphs and diagrams for analysis, which can provide a unique biochemical profile for each individual tested. A stress stimulus on the regulation thermogram shows up as normal, inflammatory, degenerative, rigid or blocked. A subsequent scan will reveal the effectiveness of the intervention strategies. Results are read and interpreted by a health care professional and based on those results, “you can be very proactive in your health care to try to balance the systems that are now out of balance,” said Dr. Atkins.

“We can finally see what the body is doing before it becomes dysfunctional enough to create a potentially seriously problem,” stated Dr. Atkins.

While computer regulation thermography is “advanced,” it is certainly not new, noted Dr. Atkins. In fact, thermography was introduced at around the same time as mammography, according to Dr. Atkins “but thermography technology was not perfected, so mammography became the gold standard  - but now the technology is perfected,” he stated.

Dr. Atkins continues to be pleased with his collaboration with the Northport Wellness Center. Bringing regulation thermography to the facility adds to the full range of services that the Northport Wellness Center offers, he said. “I was looking for a place that could provide ancillary services to things that I don’t do and that was very reputable and honest and forthright and when I met Dr. Sherr (director and chiropractor at the Northport Wellness Center), I felt that the Northport Wellness Center filled all that criteria.”

The goal of bringing in this new technology is two-fold, said Dr. Sherr. “We are delighted to team up with Dr. Atkins. Bringing computer regulation thermography to the Northport Wellness Center enhances the Northport Wellness Center’s ability to assist our patients in achieving optimal health and especially, provides an opportunity for our patients to take advantage of safe, effective and non-invasive measures to preventing cancer, as well as other challenges to their health.”

Dr. Stephen Atkins has more than 35 years of experience in holistic medicine. He received his PhD in Integrative Medicine in 2001 and is Board Certified in Holistic Health. At his Huntington wellness facility, Atkins Wellness Solutions, Dr. Atkins generally focuses on addressing cancer, autoimmune disease(s) and infectious disease(s) in an effort to help his patients achieve health and balance in their bodies.

Dr. Alan Sherr graduated from the New York Chiropractic College in 1980 and has been in private practice for more than 36 years in Long Island, New York. He is founder and director of the Northport Wellness Center, a holistic health care practice which takes a “vitalistic” approach to health care and encourages each individual to make informed health choices and take responsibility for his or her own physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.
